Barents Sports Days

As part of the Barents Days, and for the third time, the sports festival gathers more than 100 young sportsmen from Russia, Finland and Norway in Kirkenes. The Barents Sports Days offers competitions in wrestling, swimming and ice-hockey. You can also enjoy dance shows and figure-skating by the performers from Murmansk.

It starts with a parade from the town centre to the Barents Swimming Pool. The competitions take place in the gym in the old swimming pool building, at the Barents Swimming Pool (Barentsbadet) and at the skating ring (Lillebanen) on Saturday, Jan. the 30th (see advertisements in the local newspapers). The festival offers a unique opportunity for small children to attend master-classes in figure-skating at Lillebanen, on Saturday.

Sports has always been in the vanguard when it comes to cross-border cooperation in the Barents Region, both with regards to children, youth and grown-ups. Through numerous visits across the borders and participation in the competitions, the sports have functioned as a meeting place and as a bridge-builder between people across political and cultural differences. Join the Barents Sport Days!
